Independent MEP Rosemary ‘Dana’ Scallon has called on the US government to delay any decision on the future of the Shannon stopover until its ramifications have been fully assessed.

Ms Scallon said the decision should be delayed until a study is carried out into how the ending of the Shannon stopover would affect US businesses operating in the region.

US and Irish officials are negotiating the future of the bilateral air transport agreement between the two countries. Ending the Shannon stopover is one of the demands of the US delegation.
