Rod Millman hopes to be double-handed in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot with Sergeant Cecil and Hawridge Prince.
The Cullompton trainer hopes to keep his two smart stayers apart until the Group One showpiece on June 21 and is aiming to give each one another couple of runs before the big day.
Sergeant Cecil goes for the Emirates Airline Yorkshire Cup at York in two weeks time, with Millman hoping to fit another race in before Ascot.
Hawridge Prince tackles the Woodcote Stud Sagaro Stakes at Ascot tomorrow with a view to then contesting the wbx.com World Bet Exchange Henry II Stakes at Sandown on May 29.
“Obviously we won’t run these two horses against each other until the Ascot Gold Cup,” said Millman.
“If they are both healthy and well they will meet there. We’ve got to keep them apart until then.”
Millman reported Sergeant Cecil, winner of last season’s Group One Prix du Cadran, to be fighting fit after his seasonal debut at Newbury where he was fourth to Maraahel.
“Sergeant Cecil came out of his race very well and goes for the Yorkshire Cup. He may also have a run between York and Ascot,” Millman continued.
“The horse is in good form. If there was a pacemaker in one of those top mile-and-a-half races I would fear nothing.”
Of Hawridge Prince, he added: “All being well, he goes for the Henry II Stakes after the Sagaro.”
