The United States is considering dropping anti-Taliban propaganda from airplanes inside Afghanistan as part of its efforts to undermine support for the hardline Islamic regime.
The plan emerged as US President George W Bush prepares to publicly approve a £70m aid package for Afghan refugees fleeing their homeland in anticipation of US attacks.
The propaganda leaflets would be air-dropped along with food consignments in a move reminiscent of how the US interfered in the Central American ‘banana republics’ in the 1950s.
The Eisenhower administration dropped anti-socialist propaganda on these republics to drum up support for military dictatorships who protected US interests.
