Devenney boost for Donegal

Brendan Devenney has been included in the Donegal side for Sunday's Ulster SFC quarter-final clash with Armagh, handing the NFL Division One champions a sizeable boost.

Devenney started last month's league final against Mayo but only lasted 30 minutes as a stomach muscle injury got the better of him.

The St Eunan's clubman injured his stomach while practising his free-taking prior to the league semi-final win over Kildare.

But Donegal manager Brian McIver is seemingly confident that his attacking ace is over that injury and that he will last the pace in Sunday's tie (Ballybofey, throw-in 4pm).

McIver has been forced to make one change to the side that won the league final for the Tir Chonaill men's championship opener - Brian Roper, the Vodafone All-Stars Footballer of the month for April, is suffering from a hamstring injury and will not start.

His place in attack has gone to Kevin McMenamin, although the Donegal management could alter things before the throw-in with Roper and Rory Kavanagh viewed as possible late inclusions.

McMenamin and half-back Paddy McConigley will be making their championship debuts for Donegal this weekend, although McConigley did taste SFC action for London in last year's Connacht championship.

Donegal have had a year to remember so far, winning their first senior national title since 1992. They went unbeaten throughout the National League campaign, beating Mayo (twice), Cork, Dublin, Tyrone, Kerry, Fermanagh and Kildare and they also drew with Limerick.

Sunday's winners will face Tyrone in the Ulster semi-final on June 17.
