Great Universal set to offload Breathe.com

Great Universal Stores is expected to wash its hands of Breathe.com only three months after buying the internet service provider for £1.4m.

Great Universal Stores is expected to wash its hands of Breathe.com only three months after buying the internet service provider for £1.4m.

The admission by GUS that a sale is likely follows previous denials dismissing talk of a sale as "just a market rumour" .

The news comes in the light of press reports that GUS had purchased Breathe.com to build its technology into its own e-commerce offerings, and had no interest in running it as a service provider.

David Tyler, finance director of GUS said: "I suspect we will have to think about what we do with it. It has been a useful learning experience, but running an ISP is expensive."

Mr Tyler adds that GUS has already received several approaches for the business.

The proposed sale of Breathe.com scotches rumours that GUS was seeking to use its technology to create a new WAP-based shopping service for Argos.
