Clemence seeks home comforts

Stephen Clemence has called on Birmingham to repeat their achievement of last season and remain unbeaten at St Andrews for the second half of the campaign.

Blues did not lose at home after Boxing Day last season and midfielder Clemence feels a similar run is needed to keep them in the top flight.

Steve Bruce’s side picked up only one point from their first seven matches in front of their own fans via a 2-2 draw with Liverpool in September.

But there have been signs of them turning the corner after a haul of seven points from their last three home matches with a draw against Manchester United in between victories over Fulham and Wigan.

Clemence said: “We’ve now got to build a run. The target has got to be to stay unbeaten at home for the rest of the season and why can’t we do it?

“It can be done. We have done it before. We did it in the second half of last season so that has to be the aim this time around.”

Clemence, who has been hit by calf and hamstring injuries this season, was rested for Monday’s win over the Latics but has spelled out his desire to remain at Blues for the remainder of his career.

He recently signed a new three-year contract and is content with life at City whom he joined during the January 2003 transfer window from Tottenham.

Clemence said: “The dream is to see out my playing days here. It was great to sign the new contract which will take me past 30 and, at the moment, I don’t see myself going anywhere else.

“I enjoy it here, my family is settled here and now I want to make sure that we stay in the Premiership.”
