O2 Ireland, the Official Mobile Communications Supplier to the IRFU, today launched a text initiative designed to generate 1 million "good luck" messages for the Irish rugby team.
The person who sends the most creative 'good luck’ text will win a trip for two to see Ireland play Australia in Perth on June 7.
Furthermore, Irish fans texting the "good luck" messages will be helping the IRFU Charitable Trust, as O2 have pledged a contribution of 17 cent to the trust for every text message received.
The Irish team "good luck" text message initiative starts immediately as Ireland continue their Triple Crown and Grand Slam challenge against Wales and is open until May 24.
To send your message of good luck to the Irish team, text the word PERTH followed by your message to 53101.
Each message sent will cost a maximum of 61 cent. Terms and conditions apply, see www.o2.ie for details.
Commenting on the initiative, Gerry McQuaid, Commercial Director for O2
Ireland said, "O2 are proud sponsors of Irish Rugby at both national and
local levels and we expect this initiative will generate over 1m 'good luck'
messages for the Irish team between now and May 24th. The winning ways of
the Irish team in this year’s Six Nations have captivated the Nation and O2
look forward to partnering the Irish team on successful campaigns later this
year".
The ‘good luck’ messages of support are being welcomed by the Irish players.
Team Coach Eddie O’Sullivan said: "The players have always had a great rapport with the Irish fans and this initiative from O2 gives them the opportunity to express their good wishes to the team.
"The next couple of weeks are incredibly important for rugby in Ireland and any support will be
gratefully accepted by the squad and management."
A selection of the texts received in advance of the Ireland v England match on March 30 will be displayed on the big screen in Lansdowne Road at half time during the game.
Before the game, O2 will also have teams of promotional personnel using Media Messaging handsets to take pictures of the most creative outfits worn by fans making their way to the ground.
These photos will also be shown on the big screen at half time during the Ireland v England match.
