Westlife have been banned from the NME Carling Awards after being labelled "a joke".

Organisers of the music event say the Irish band are a threat to its credibility.

Security staff have been ordered to get rid of Westlife if they are caught trying to get in.

A spokesperson for NME said: "The organisers want the bash to have credibility - and they don't believe that will happen if Westlife are allowed in.

"They like pop music but believe bands like Westlife actually destroy it."

Among those invited are Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, the Appleton sisters, Victoria Beckham and Liam Gallagher.

Kerry Katona - the fiancee of Westlife's Bryan - has also been invited, along with Atomic Kitten.

The ceremony will be held at the Arches venue in east London on February 6.
