Paddy Brennan grabbed the riding honours at Doncaster this afternoon with a sparkling 805-1 four-timer.
The 23-year-old from Galway, who had never even ridden a treble before, struck on Lacdoudal (7-4), Doce Vida (15-2), Kalca Mome (11-1) and Gunther McBride (15-8 favourite).
“It’s unbelievable – the best day of my life. Everything went right and my luck was in,” Brennan told Channel 4 Racing.
“I’d never ridden a treble before. I was thinking last night that it could be one of those days when you could ride two or three winners or ride none.
“The guv’nor’s horses – Mr Hobbs – are in great form as are Alan King’s. When you are riding for those trainers it makes life a lot easier.”
The highlight of the afternoon was his victory on Gunther McBride in the Worthington’s Creamflow Neville Crump Memorial Handicap Chase.
The nine-year-old made all the running and came home 20 lengths clear of the only other finisher Lord Of The River, with the four other runners either falling or unseating their rider.
“I had always wanted to ride Gunther McBride. You have to be forceful on him and I thought I would get on with him,” the jockey continued.
“He’s ended up winning by 20 lengths but other horses in the race have fallen so I hope the handicapper doesn’t be too severe on him because he gives his best every time.”
A delighted Hobbs told Racing UK from Cheltenham: “It was terrific, although I feel a bit lucky as most of the others went by the wayside, but Gunther McBride has won all right.
“His performance was great and Paddy Brennan rode four winners – which was very good.”
Three of Brennan’s winners – Lacdoudal, Kalca Mome and Gunther McBride – were for Hobbs, who also saddled big-race winner Monkerhostin at Cheltenham.
The jockey’s other winner, Doca Vida, is trained by Alan King.
The Irishman only rode out his claim a month ago.
“I lost my claim when winning a novice chase on Made In Japan and some of the bigger trainers are starting to use me now,” he added.
