Galway's Fine Gael mayor has said that her vote blocking presidential hopeful David Norris from addressing the City Council was a "misunderstanding".
Senator Norris was yesterday prevented from addressing the council as part of his bid to secure the backing of four local authorities in his run for the Áras.
The casting vote of city Mayor Hildegaard Naughten was decisive in blocking Norris' address.
However Mayor Naughten has reconsidered, saying she she would now try to ensure that Senator Norris has the opportunity to make a presentation to the council.
Describing her original vote as an error of judgement, Mayor Naughten said that affording Senator Norris the opportunity to speak was in the best interests of the citizens of Galway.
Meanwhile Mary Davis now looks certain to secure a presidential nomination.
The Special Olympics organiser yesterday won the support of Mayo and Limerick County Councils.
She already has the backing of Louth and Monaghan County Councils.
