Shannon 26 Lansdowne 17, Coonagh
Andrew Thompson helped himself to 16 points as Shannon won their first ever AIB League game at Coonagh, beating Lansdowne 26-17 for some valuable Division One points.
Playing at their second ground due to Thomond Park's redevelopment, Shannon maintained their run in fourth place in Division One.
The champions went 10-0 down when Lansdowne prop Paul Doran Jones (21 minutes) scored a converted try and full-back Robbie Dolan (28) landed a penalty.
But Shannon fought back to lead 13-10 at the break with number 8 David Quinlan and full-back David O'Donovan dotting down.
Out-half Thompson broke free to score in the 55th-minute and he kicked two second half penalties.
This game was a slow burner, both sides took their time to settle and it was the visitors who hit the front when Doran Jones muscled over to the left of the posts.
The try was set up when Lansdowne attacked off a lineout on the 22, their forwards droved on and the ball was whipped out for Greg Stafford to make the line break. The headquarters side worked through the phases and numbers out on the left saw Doran Jones dot down.
Dolan converted and added a penalty before Shannon got off the mark. Thompson chipped over a penalty, six minutes before the break, and just moments later Quinlan got over for his try.
The try was all about Colm McMahon as he stole ball from a Lansdowne maul, broke through a couple of tackles and offloaded for O'Donovan who found the supporting Quinlan who took his score well.
From the restart, Shannon struck again as they secured possession and O'Donovan took an excellent line off a John Clogan pass to dart through and score. Dolan missed a late penalty chance as Mick Galwey's side took a 13-10 advantage into the second half.
Thompson, who turned 33 earlier this month, opened the second period in fine style as he struck over a penalty on 52 minutes and just three minutes later, he shrugged off two tackles to nab a converted try.
Therein was the winning of this match but Lansdowne, to their credit, never gave up. Thompson hit over another penalty before the Dubliners' replacement hooker Gavin O'Meara touched down in the 70th-minute - just as he did last time out against 'Quins - for Dolan to convert.
