Gardai arrested a young woman from Doneraile in North Cork and charged her today with having an AK47 Kalashnikov assault rifle at her home contrary to the Offences Against the State Act.
Michelle O'Rourke, a 21-year-old woman with long red hair and dressed casually, was brought before Cork District Court.
She was formally arrested by Sergeant John Cahill following a recent investigation and charged with having the AK47 at her home in Rockview Terrace, Doneraile, Co Cork, between July 1 and September 29.
She faces a similar charge of having a DAK pistol, both offences contrary to the Firearms Act as amended by the Offences Against the State Act.
She is the third person to be brought to Cork District Court since the weekend and prosecuted under this legislation.
Judge Con O'Leary released O'Rourke on a cash bail of €500 on condition that she would sign daily at Mallow Garda Station and surrender her passport.
Inspector Denis O'Shea applied to have the case adjourned until October 16.
On Monday, Detective Sergeant Declan O'Sullivan arrested Brian McSweeney, aged 21, of Coolowen, Blarney, Co Cork, at Colmcille Avenue, in Cork, and charged him with having a Kalashnikov at his home in Blarney on September 28.
He was released on an independent cash surety at €7,500 until October 16.
McSweeney had to surrender his passport to Det. Sergeant O'Sullivan and agree to sign on daily at Gurranabraher Garda Station.
Anthony Crowley, aged 19, of Stoneview, Blarney, was before a special sitting of Cork District Court at the weekend on four charges.
Out on bail of €500 with an independent surety of €6,000, €2,000 to be lodged, Crowley does not have to come back to court again until November 20.
Crowley is charged with having a DAK pistol hand gun for an unlawful purpose and similar charges in relation to assorted ammunition, a sawn-off shotgun an AK47 assault rifle.
