Israeli commandos raided an apartment near the West Bank city of Ramallah today, killing a member of the Palestinian security forces and arresting another man, Palestinian security officials said.

The dead man was identified as 25-year-old Ahmed Ghanam. It was not immediately clear how he died, or whether he was on Israel’s wanted list.

Israeli tanks, backed by a helicopter, drove into the Ramallah suburb of Beitunia before dawn today and surrounded Ghanam’s apartment.

Israel Army Radio said the operation was led by Duvdevan, an elite undercover unit of the Israeli military.

There was no immediate comment by the army.
