No change for Cork selectors

The five selectors who guided Cork to All Ireland SHC hurling glory last September will be in place again next year.

The five selectors who guided Cork to All Ireland SHC hurling glory last September will be in place again next year.

Newtownshandrum, as county champions, had a right to nominate a person of their choice for the coming year and put forward Patsy Morrissey.

As he was already a member of the existing quintet and a member of John Allen’s team it means no change as Cork go in search of three in a row.

Na Piarsaigh’s Joe O’Leary will stay on board and that’s good news too for Allen as he was very keen to preserve the status quo.

It means that Allen, Morrissey, O’Leary, Fred Sheedy and Ger Cunningham will be directing matters again from the sideline.

Meanwhile, Newtownshandrum will have a few representatives at Semple Stadium next Sunday where Tipperary champions Thurles Sarsfields will meet Kerry champions Lixnaw in the opening round of the Munster Club Championship.

Newtown will play the winners in the semi-final on November 20 at a Cork venue which is unlikely now to be Páirc Uí Chaoimh.
