Taoiseach Enda Kenny has congratulated Rory McIlroy on his victory in golf's PGA Championship in the US overnight.
The win means the 23-year-old has won his second major championship at a younger age than Tiger Woods.
Mr Kenny said it is further confirmation of his "enormous talent" and "a clear signal that he has the potential to become one of the greats of the game".
He said: "Irish golf is going through an amazing period of success, with Rory at the vanguard of that change."
McIlroy return to World Number one this morning following his win at Kiawah Island.
He finished eight shots clear on 13 under and has become the youngest player since Seve Ballesteros to win two majors.
David Lynn was second on five under.
Graeme McDowell ended on two under, Padraig Harrington was one under while Darren Clarke was six over.
