Vespone comfortably held the late charge of the Neville Callaghan-trained Magistretti to win the Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp today.
The Nicolas Clement-trained colt, winner of the Prix Jean Prat on his latest start, was certainly in no mood to hang around under Christophe Lemaire and led the 11-runner field at a good clip from the off.
Dante winner Magistretti flashed home late for Christophe Soumillon but was never going to peg back the impressive winner.
Magistretti had been held up at the back of the field for most of the 10-furlong trip but answered Soumillon's every call in the straight to make up plenty of ground.
However, the post came too soon for him.
Look Honey also finished well to take third, but Frankie Dettori’s mount Lateen Sails failed to pick up as expected in the straight, having stalked the winner from the off, and could finish only fourth.
Aidan O’Brien’s pair Alberto Giacometti and Spartacus, and Michael Stoute’s Illustrator, never got in a blow.
