The SDLP is predicting gains at the polls at it launches its election manifesto in Belfast today.
John Hume said it had delivered its core goals in the Good Friday Agreement, and now sought to bring prosperity to areas suffering from chronic unemployment because of the Troubles.
The party were also highly critical of Sinn Fein, whose entire election campaign was based on trying to overtake the SDLP, they said.
Deputy First Minister Seamus Mallon said the SDLP want to make a difference, not just to make the news.
