Jenson Button has begun training in preparation for the new Formula One season as he bids for 2001 glory with Benetton.

The British racer has just complated a five-day stint at a training camp in Lanzarote with the curtain-raising Australian Grand Prix less than two months away.

Button, who has joined the Renault-owner F1 team from Williams on a two-year loan deal, was put through his paces with a programme that included running, mountain and road biking, swimming and weight and circuit training.

"I had a fantastic time," said Button, who will be 21 on January 19.

"I was slightly apprehensive about the intense training programme that averages four activities a day and includes two and a half hour uphill bike rides.

But we had a really good team there and it has been lots of fun as well as hard work."

Benetton test driver Mark Webber joined Button on the programme while Giancarlo Fisichella stayed in Italy for physiotherapy following a recent operation on his knee.
