Gerry team look ahead

Owner Gerry Galligan has no intention of selling his new star Sir Gerry, and is gearing himself up for the juvenile’s next outing in the Shadwell Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket in early October.

Galligan succumbed to a big-money offer for smart handicapper Sir Gerard a year ago, but is keen to hold on to last week’s impressive winner of the Gimcrack Stakes at York.

Jamie Spencer has made no secret of the regard in which he holds the son of Carson City, who proved a defeat at Newmarket was nothing more than a minor blip when showing a fine turn of foot to repel Great Barrier Reef on the Knavesmire.

Galligan said: “We’ve had offers for him, but we’ve turned them down. I’m not interested in selling – we’re going to have some fun with him and he’s going to win some good races.

“His next race will be the Middle Park without a shadow of a doubt. He came out of the race looking fantastic – he’s in great shape.”

Reflecting on Sir Gerry’s performance in the Gimcrack, the retired bookmaker added:

“He was certainly impressive and Jamie has always been keen on him, right from the start really.

“It was a fantastic day and I felt he was the each-way bet in the race. We were worried about the favourite (Swiss Franc), but were still confident. Touch wood, he’ll be all right for October 5.”
