Antrim side named for Hurling League opener

Antrim manager Jerry Wallace has named his team to face Wexford in their opening Allianz Hurling League Division 1B tie this Sunday at Casement Park (throw-in 1.30pm).

Antrim manager Jerry Wallace has named his team to face Wexford in their opening Allianz Hurling League Division 1B tie this Sunday at Casement Park (throw-in 1.30pm).

It is Wallace's first competitive game as the Saffrons boss after they decided not to participate in the Walsh Cup pre season competition.

Six of the Ulster side that was beaten by Connacht in the M Donnelly Interprovincial Hurling Championship semi-final last weekend have been included in the Antrim starting line-up.

Kevin McGourty is the only defender named not to have featured for his province against Connacht.

He is included alongside Arron Graffin, Cormac Donnelly, Neal McAuley, Neil McManus and Simon McCrory in the Antrim rearguard.

St. Gall's clubman Karl Stewart, who shot six points for Ulster in the semi-final clash, will start in midfield alongside Barry McFall.

Sean McLaughlin is the lone debutant in the side. He will feature in a half-forward line which also includes captain Michael Herron and Barry's brother Colm.

Shane McNaughton, Kevin Sheerin and PJ O'Connell will form the top line of Wallace's chosen attack.
