Everton defender Alan Stubbs believes Wayne Rooney will create a big impact if he seals a deadline-day transfer to Manchester United.
Stubbs has seen the 18-year-old England striker grow and has nothing but admiration for him as a player and a man.
“Wayne is a special player and will fit in well if he goes to United,” said the former Celtic star.
“If it does happen I wish him well. He is a good pal. If it does work out for him I will be delighted.
“It would be a massive move for Wayne and would generate a lot of money for Everton.”
Stubbs is looking for closure on the saga. United made a second bid after Rooney handed in a transfer request.
“Hopefully it can be sorted out and we can get on with other things,” he said.
“I think both parties would like that now because the situation has dragged on a bit.”
Rooney did not play at Old Trafford yesterday as he is still recovering from a foot injury but Everton still managed to secure a valuable point.
United manager Alex Ferguson was left frustrated after Cristiano Ronaldo, Alan Smith and Paul Scholes all struck the woodwork.
The result means United already trail Arsenal and Chelsea by seven points with only four games played.
Scotland midfielder Darren Fletcher admitted they were unhappy not to have overcome Everton’s dogged determination.
“It was really frustrating. They played 4-1-4-1 and we just couldn’t break them down,” he said.
“We were really disappointed with the result. We didn’t have as many chances as we had against Blackburn (in the 1-1 draw on Saturday).”
However, despite the point taking the Red Devils’ tally to just five from four matches the Scotland midfielder said the players’ confidence remained high.
“We have always got that belief,” he added on Sky Sports. “We have got the capability to go out and win.”
Everton manager David Moyes was delighted with the way his team went about their business.
The point was gained on the back of a victory at West Brom – and the continuing speculation surrounding his prize asset Rooney.
“The team has been united since we came back and the players have worked really hard. We are trying to stick our chests out,” he said.
“It was a great team performance. We defended well, were well organised and created a number of opportunities.
“On the face of it Old Trafford is the last place you want to go on a Bank Holiday, apart from maybe Arsenal. We were a little bit jaded but I am proud of that performance.
“We have made a decent start to the season and now we have to try and maintain that form.”
Everton were furious that referee Dermot Gallagher waved play on when Mikael Silvestre appeared to handle in the area.
“I thought it was a penalty kick,” said Moyes. “It was a handball.
“There should have been another one when Duncan (Ferguson) was pushed.”
Moyes remains keen to strengthen his side before the transfer window closes tonight.
He is hoping to tempt Djimi Traore away from Liverpool but he may now be needed at Anfield as Sami Hyypia suffered a broken nose in the defeat at Bolton on Sunday.
Moyes said: “I cannot give you any more on that situation. I would still like to sign him but I cannot tell you if that will happen.
“We are short of numbers and we might be looking at loan deals.”
