Met Eireann has predicted another "major event" which could lead to flooding in some areas of the country over the next few days.

Meanwhile, most public transport services around the country are running as normal - with some delays and diversions in affected areas.

Passengers are being urged to consult the website transport.ie for latest updates before setting out on journeys.

Airports at home and abroad are still working to clear the backlog of thousands of people making their way home for the holidays.

Dublin, Shannon and Cork airports are currently operating, but intending passengers are still advised to check with individual airlines before travelling to the facilities.

Bus Eireann services currently affected by weather and road conditions include some services in the east and north east:

Route 111: Dublin/Athboy – Operating with delays; no connection to Cavan. Cavan/Athboy – operating between Cavan and Granard only.

Route 121: Edenderry/Tullamore – Operating with delays; not serving Croghan or Rhode

Route 126: Dublin/Kildare – Operating; not serving Turf Bog Lane or Suncroft

Route 133: Dublin/Wicklow – Operating, 0800 and 1300 Arklow –Wicklow; 1030 Wicklow –Arklow cancelled. Services not serving Leg of Mutton will operate via Main Street.

Route 101 Drogheda/Dublin - Operating on motorway Dublin to Walshstown both directions.

Route 161 Dundalk/Carlingford/Newry – Operating, not serving Whitestown.

Route 163 Drogheda/Donore – Cancelled.

Route 166 Dundalk Carrickmacross – Not serving Inniskeen. Cavan service cancelled.

Route 168 Dundalk/Annagassan – Cancelled.

Route 175 Monaghan/Cavan – Cancelled.

Route 182 Drogheda/Ardee – Operating not serving Tullyallen.

Route 187 Oldcastle/Kells – Not serving Moynalty.

Route 189 Drogheda/Clogher – Cancelled.

Route 190 Drogheda/Laytown – Cancelled.

Balbriggan Town Service – Cancelled

Drogheda Northside & Southside Town Services – Cancelled.

Dundalk Town Services – Not serving Marian Park or Coxes.

All Galway city services are operating as per normal this morning.

All services in Galway county are operating this morning apart from 416 Galway-Carna, which is cancelled.
