Trade Fair hopes to continue winning ways

Trade Fair bids for back-to-back victories in the Bango Criterion Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.

Trade Fair bids for back-to-back victories in the Bango Criterion Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.

The four-year-old suffered mixed fortunes last year with notable defeats in the Challenge Stakes and the Sussex Stakes to go with three wins that also included a four-length success in the Criterion Stakes.

His rivals in Saturday’s Group Three contest include Mick Channon’s Naahy, who is unbeaten in his last three starts, including the Ballycorus Stakes at the Curragh earlier this month.

Trade Fair has only raced once this term when beating only one home in the Duke Of York Hearthstead Homes Stakes, in which Michael Stoute’s Arakan, who renews rivalry on Saturday, finished third.

The latter, the mount of champion jockey Kieren Fallon, has since finished runner-up in a Group Three event at the Curragh but failed to cut any ice in last week’s Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Godolphin have just the one runner in Desert Destiny while Polar Ben will represent Newmarket handler James Fanshawe.

Court Masterpiece, Prince Tum Tum and Kings Point complete the field.
