The Taoiseach is being called on to confirm that a new examiner is being appointed to review evidence into the Stardust fire.

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has written to Bertie Ahern following a meeting with the Stardust Victims Committee.

Last month, the Committee withdrew its co-operation with an examination of the case after it emerged the Senior Counsel appointed, previously represented gardaí at the inquests into the Stardust deaths.

They are now calling on Mr Ahern to appoint a new examiner before he leaves office.

Forty-eight people were killed in the Stardust fire in Artane, Dublin on Valentine's Day in 1981.
