The Republic of Ireland's Euro 2004 qualifier with Russia could be under threat from peat bog fires in the area surrounding the Russian capital.

The Republic of Ireland's Euro 2004 qualifier with Russia could be under threat from peat bog fires in the area surrounding the Russian capital.

Massive fires have caused widespread smog and while the General Secretary of the Russian Football Union Vladimir Radionov has said he hopes the game with not be affected - a final decision will only be taken on Saturday morning.

The team are due to touch down in Moscow this afternoon.
