Ulster Bank is making no comment on reports that its parent company, Royal Bank of Scotland, is planning to raise between £5bn (€3.2bn) and £12bn (€7.6bn) from its shareholders.
RBS is aiming to counteract the effects of the credit crunch in the UK.
The group, which owns both Ulster Bank and First Active in Ireland, is to make a statement on the matter next week.
