Cameron issues gum drop warning

Scotland international Colin Cameron concedes his Euro 2004 hopes are resting on a new gumshield.

Scotland international Colin Cameron concedes his Euro 2004 hopes are resting on a new gumshield.

The Wolves midfielder has been struggling with a pelvic complaint which can be offset by wearing a mouthguard.

But Cameron lost his original shield on international duty and has been left hoping the replacement will be enough to help him be ready for the play-off games against Holland.

He told the Scottish Daily Express: “I’m in the dark over whether or not I’ll make it for Holland.

“But I reckon I have no chance of being ready for Wolves’ match with Birmingham this weekend.

“I don’t know if this stomach problem is linked to the pelvic complaint I’ve had, but I have been given a new gumshield and I pray it will make things better in time.

“I started wearing a gumshield because it gave my body balance and helped ease the discomfort.

“There are muscles on one side of my face that can tense up and throw me off balance, which causes problems with my pelvis.

“I must have misplaced my old mouthguard when I was with Scotland.”

Scotland boss Berti Vogts could be handed another midfield problem after Dundee manager Jim Duffy admitted Gavin Rae was unlikely to be fit after a hamstring strain.

The Dark Blues’ man will not play against Motherwell this weekend.

Duffy told The Courier: “Gavin has no chance for this Saturday and I’d say is highly unlikely to be ready for the international, although it will be up to Berti Vogts and his staff to make a determination in that regard.”

Vogts will name his squad for the play-offs against the Dutch tomorrow at Hampden Park at 3pm.
