ISEQ surges in early trading

The ISEQ index of Irish shares enjoyed a brisk morning's trading, posting an overall gain of 54.37 points to 2,826.73 by 11.30am.

The ISEQ index of Irish shares enjoyed a brisk morning's trading, posting an overall gain of 54.37 points to 2,826.73 by 11.30am.

Index majors on the risers' board included CRH, gaining 33c to 17.65; FBD Holdings, also up 33c to 7.40; Paddy Power, rising 30c to 16.40; Tullow Oil, up 19c to 16.68; Smurfit Kappa, cheering 15c to 3.61; Kerry Group, up 13c to 15.83; Glanbia, rising 11c to 2.37, and Greencore, adding 5c to 1.21.

Among the fallers, Elan Corp and Aer Lingus both slipped 1c, to 5.48 and 0.51 respectively.

Financial stocks had a good morning, with AIB up 11c to 1.98, Bank of Ireland gaining 16c to 1.97 and Irish Life & Permanent 17c in the black at 3.35.
