Former Middlesbrough defender David Wheater is to made his debut for Bolton in this FA Cup tie against Wigan at the Reebok Stadium.

Wheater replaces Gary Cahill, who was on the bench, and partners Zat Knight at the back.

He is one of three changes to the side that lost 4-0 to Chelsea with Sam Ricketts and Mark Davies recalled.

Wigan show little resemblance to the team that went down at home to Aston Villa.

Only Emmerson Boyce, Maynor Figueroa and James McArthur have retained their places with Mike Pollitt in goal as Ali Al Habsi is barred from facing his parent club.

Bolton: Jaaskelainen, Ricketts, Wheater, Knight, Robinson, Petrov, Muamba, Mark Davies, Taylor, Elmander, Kevin Davies.

Subs: Bogdan, Cahill, Holden, Klasnic, Moreno, Blake, Alonso.
