Everton have confirmed they have made a bid for £3.5m-rated Anderlecht striker Tomasz Radzinski.
Boss Walter Smith sees the 27-year-old Canadian international as the answer to the club's striking problems following the sale of Francis Jeffers to Arsenal.
The Toffees will however face competition for Radzinski's signature from north-east trio Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough.
Radzinski scored 23 goals last season and played a major part in Anderlecht securing the Dutch domestic title.
Everton spokesman Ian Ross said: "I can now confirm that we have lodged a formal bid for Tomasz Radzinski. We are now waiting to hear from the player's club Anderlecht."
Last week Anderlecht were reported to have placed an £8m price tag on the head of Radzinski following Jan Koller's move to Borussia Dortmond.
