The McDonalds restaurant giant has launched its first Irish McCafe in an effort to move into the gourmet coffee market in Ireland.
The outlet in Grafton Street, Dublin, was officially opened today by the city’s Lord Mayor, Dermot Lacey.
Speaking at the launch, Marcus Hewson, managing director of McDonalds Restaurants Ireland, said: "Coffee consumption in Ireland is on the increase as never before and we are hoping to be big players in that market."
The company also plans to spend €600,000 installing coffee parlours with wooden flooring and leather-backed seating at its restaurants in O’Connell Street, Kylemore Road and Tallaght in Dublin.
