Minister announces sea safety boost

Marine Minister Dermot Ahern has announced a €54,000 fund for life saving and safety equipment for nine sea angling and Marine tourism vessels.

Marine Minister Dermot Ahern has announced a €54,000 fund for life saving and safety equipment for nine sea angling and Marine tourism vessels.

It is being made under the fisheries diversification programme aimed at assisting people in coastal communities.

Of the nine vessels earmarked, three are based in Dublin, two in Donegal and one each in Mayo, Sligo and Waterford.

The investment comes ahead of a visit this week by a delegation from the EU fisheries committee.
