Phil Taylor and Andrew Sinnott from Cumshinstown picked up the Pro-Am title ahead of the Irish Masters on Friday night with victory over Roland Scholten and John Cullen 4 legs to 1.
The competition, featuring the PDC World Ranked Top 12 and twelve Irish select players, was played at the Crosbie Cedars Hotel, Rosslare in front of a packed house.
All twenty-four players were drawn into pairs – one Pro and one amateur for a best of five legs tournament.
The competition got underway with a tight encounter between Ger Foxe/Alan Warriner vs Andrew Sinnott/Phil Taylor, which went the way of the Ten Times World Champ and his partner 3 legs to 2.
Match two was equally tight but Don Fenlon and partner Colin Lloyd eventually saw off Billy O’Brien and reigning Irish Masters Champ Denis Ovens.
Ladbrokes.com World Champ John Part and Myles O’Neill from Ferris made short work of Noel Sinnott and Dennis Smith 3-0, before triumphant local hero Robbie Hammond partnered by Peter Manley wrapped up the first round 3-1.
The quarter finals were over in quick-time as the first three matches were won 3-0 with only John Part/Myles O’Neill dropping a leg against Robbie Hammond and Peter Manley.
Roland Scholten and Enniscorthy’s John Cullen looked to have one of the strongest pairings of the night as they easily dispensed with Tom O’Connor and Richie Burnett 3-0 in the first semi.
Then stepped up Taylor and Sinnott to send John Part and Myles O’Neill packing in equally impressive fashion.
That left Scholten/Cullen to go head-to-head with Sinnott and Taylor in the best of 7 legs Final.
Sinnott had impressed throughout the night – inspired perhaps by his formidable partner – and duly put in his best performance of the night with Taylor backing him shot for shot and it wasn’t long before the duo had built up an unassailable lead.
At 3-1 Sinnott found himself needing 50 for the match and unfazed he hit 10, Tops to claim victory.
