SDLP urges RUC to comment on UDA ceasefire

The SDLP has urged RUC chief constable Ronnie Flanagan and Northern Secretary John Reid to come out and say whether they believe the Ulster Defence Association is still on ceasefire.

The SDLP has urged RUC chief constable Ronnie Flanagan and Northern Secretary John Reid to come out and say whether they believe the Ulster Defence Association is still on ceasefire.

The move comes after the murder of a Protestant teenager in Glengormley, Co Antrim, last night.

The Red Hand Defenders, a cover-name for the UDA, claimed responsibility for the killing.

Earlier this month, the UDA withdrew from the Northern peace process, but said its ceasefire is still intact.

However, using its cover-name, it has claimed responsibility for several murders in the past year.
