She had earlier gained famous victories under Micky Fenton in the Nell Gwyn Stakes and the Stan James 1000 Guineas before finding a mile and a half too far when fourth in the Vodafone Oaks.

The daughter of Danehill Dancer has done well for her break and is now ready for a run.

“Hopefully York is where she’s going,” Mrs Sly said.

“She’s fine. She’s just been as awkward as ever – that’s how the good ones are.

“The easier ground would help her, that’s why I haven’t run her. I shouldn’t really have gone to Ascot, the ground was far too firm.

“She should be alright now there is a bit of ease in the ground.

“She’s done well over the summer and is quite big, she must be nearly 16.2 (hands).

“Mick has been over three or four times to ride a bit of work on her. He might come tomorrow, that will be her last bit of quick work.”

Whatever her fate in Saturday’s £100,000 Group Two contest, Speciosa is likely to improve for the outing, with the Kingdom Of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket on September 30 her main target.

“Hopefully she’ll finish in a place at York and pick up a bit of money,” Mrs Sly said.

“She’s in the Sun Chariot then on the 30th I’m really going down the same route as I did when I did Nell Gwyn and then the Guineas, seven furlongs and then a mile.

“She will probably will come on a tad for Saturday’s run. She’ll be fit enough to run but she probably won’t be dead spot-on.

“The other two owners (her son Michael Sly and Dr Tom Davies) are quite keen to keep her in training next year, which would be marvellous for me because I shall never another one like her.”
