Taoiseach to fly to Washington

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, will travel to Washington today for the annual St Patrick's Day celebrations.

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, will travel to Washington today for the annual St Patrick's Day celebrations.

Mr Ahern will hold talks with US politicians and businessmen today before meeting President George W Bush tomorrow.

Several leading Northern politicians, including UUP leader David Trimble, SDLP leader Mark Durkan and Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams, are also due to attend this year's Washington celebrations in the hope of pushing forward the Irish peace process.
