Irish Ispat have confirmed that an amount of radio active material has been found in the clean-up operation after a fire at the plant yesterday which claimed the life of 53-year-old Thomas Mulcahy.
It is understood that a number of canisters containing radioactive material were found in the clean-up operation after the fire.
The company have also confirmed that they do not have a licence to keep such material on site but said that they would be applying for the relevant licence in the near future.
The material was found in the same building that Mr Mulcahy was trapped in before he died.
