Rural Galway sees steady voting

Voting is proceeding smoothly at polling stations around County Galway.

Voting is proceeding smoothly at polling stations around County Galway.

It is estimated that about 10% of voters have cast their ballots in rural areas of the county. In some cases, there were queues outside the stations when they opened at 7.30am.

The turn-out in urban areas has been somewhat slower with about 5% turnout so far.

Voters have until 10.30pm to cast a ballot.
