Polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs headed back to Utah today to face felony sex charges involving the arranged marriages of underage girls and older men, authorities said.

“He’s gone as of this morning,” Clark County Sheriff Bill Young said after Jeffs was picked up at the Clark County jail in Las Vegas this morning by authorities from Utah.

Jeffs, 50, the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, was to be moved to Hurricane, Utah, and the Purgatory Correctional Facility pending a court appearance in St. George.

He had been on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list since May, charged in Utah and Arizona with felony sex crimes. Jeffs was arrested a week ago when a Cadillac Escalade sports utility vehicle in which he was riding was pulled over by the Nevada Highway Patrol.
