Director: Larry Charles
Cast: Sacha Baron Cohen, Alice Evans
One of Cohen’s previously lesser characters, outrageously camp Austrian fashionista Bruno steps up for a brief moment of major fame in what is an often laugh-out-loud and equally often hide-your-eyes comedy.
The problem, as Cohen discovered with his previous screen character Borat, now is that Bruno will be rumbled by audiences, and those unfortunate real-life victims of his cringing pranks, and will have to be retired.
Cohen might well begin to run out of characters to shock and awe us with.
Here, Bruno takes his show to America to skewer rednecks, fashion, terrorists and, deservedly, Z-List celebs, all of which he does well in a film that still somehow doesn’t quite hang together.
Funny and disgusting it certainly is but it is also, in too many ways, merely a rehash of 'Borat'.
