Jiri Jarosik’s agent today claimed the Czech Republic international was poised to sign a two-and-a-half-year contract at Chelsea.
It had been anticipated that Jarosik would join on a loan basis from CSKA Moscow until the end of the season.
But agent Viktor Kolar predicted that a permanent deal was imminent, with the midfielder poised to become Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho’s first signing in the transfer window.
“He’s agreed all personal terms. We are ready to sign,” said Kolar. “He’s in London and I think he will stay for a long period of time over there. We are discussing signing for a two-and-a-half-year contract.
“This boy is pretty experienced. He has played more than 40 matches in the Champions League so far. He’s a versatile player who can play in midfield or attack. He’s very tall, very similar to Patrick Vieira.”
Kolar had earlier revealed in the Czech media that talks were advancing rapidly, suggesting the deal could be concluded today, providing Jarosik comes through a medical.
Eager for the chance to play in the Barclays Premiership, Jarosik told Czech newspaper Sport: “There is a great chance for me here and I will do everything to take it. Jose Mourinho explained the situation in Chelsea to me and said that I will certainly be given my chance and that he has chosen me because he needed a midfielder, who is not too young nor too old.
“Well, as I am 27, I probably fulfilled this criterion. Coach Mourinho also asked me when I played and trained for the last time.
“I told him that after a demanding season in Russia I was mainly having a rest, but he replied that he would like to try me playing anyway.”
