The three interests came together recently as, ahead of their country football semi-final, the under-13 squad from Mayo GAA club Bohola Moy Davitts, took to the bog to support a teammate and his family in their hour of need.

The Western People reports that the father of club member Padraic McKeown needed urgent surgery to remove one of his kidneys – a major operation which would mean many weeks of recovery.

So the under-13s pitched in to bring home the turf.

Despite heavy rain and storms, several trailer loads were brought home to the McKeown family. Padraic’s dad, Michael, is home after a successful operation and is recovering well.

Padraic’s mother, Mary, said that while words could never fully express their thanks and gratitude, the actions of the Moy Davitts players and their coaches will be remembered for many years to come.
