A famous Dublin bridge has provided the canvas for a new artwork created in tribute to a campaigner who died while raising funds for charity.

Artist Maser and singer-songwriter Damien Dempsey co-designed the illuminated image cast across the distinctive span of the Samuel Beckett Bridge.

The collaborative project is part of the Movember campaign and is dedicated to the memory of Conor Cronin.

The 26-year-old from Dublin died earlier this month when he fell while running to raise money for the charity.

Movember Ireland raises funds for men’s mental health and suicide prevention work as well as research into prostate and testicular cancer.

Meet me at the Bridge is the last in a series of artworks that Movember has shone onto Dublin landmarks throughout 2020.

All of the pieces are focused on encouraging men to connect with each other and engage in meaningful conversations about mental health.

Movember has worked with creative agency Huskies on the campaign.

Maser said the bridge symbolised the theme.

“We saw the Beckett Bridge as a half way point where two sides of the city are joined together and beat as one,” said the artist.

“Very much like a conversation and particularly one about mental health, we wanted to encourage people to talk more and also to listen. To meet halfway and to empathise – a conversation takes two and can make all the difference.”

Jack O’Connor of Movember said: “We were devastated to learn of Conor’s accident.

“Conor was a passionate Mo Bro, devoted to improving the lives of men who are suffering from the most pressing health issues.

“Our deepest condolences go to his friends, girlfriend and family. By dedicating this artwork in his name we hope to shine a light on his selfless work.”
