A Dublin teenager who died following a collision between his scrambler motorbike and a car near his home just over a year ago suffered multiple traumatic injuries, an inquest has heard.
Jason Monks (18), a father of one from Rossfield Drive, Tallaght, sustained fatal injuries in the incident, which occurred at around 8pm on April 20th, 2025, on Citywest Avenue, Dublin 24.
The injured youth was rushed by ambulance to Tallaght University Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
The opening of an inquest into Monks’ death at Dublin District Coroner’s Court on Tuesday heard the deceased’s mother, Donna, formally identify her son’s body to gardaí.
Monks wiped tears from her eyes as a court registrar read her statement over how gardaí called to her home to inform her that Jason had been involved in an accident and she needed to go to Tallaght Hospital.
She recalled telling gardaí that they should have known his identity as he carried his PPS card on his mobile phone.
In a tribute posted on social media following her son’s death, Monks said her heart was “shattered into a million bits.”
She recalled how there was “nothing in this world he wouldn’t do for his mammy.”
In a post on Facebook, Ms Monks pleaded that news of the fatal incident would be “a big bad dream.”
Monks also wrote: “My beautiful baby boy. How is my life ever going to be the same ever again? 18 years of loving you, the best 18 years of my life. I will love you always, my beautiful boy.”
The deceased’s partner, Shannon, also remarked in a post on social media: “Wish this was all a bad dream.”
Detective Inspector Tony Collins applied for an adjournment of the inquest under Section 25 (1) of the Coroners Act on the basis that criminal proceedings are under consideration.
Det Insp Collins told the coroner, Clare Keane, that a file on the incident which resulted in Monks’ death was being prepared for the DPP.
Dr Keane confirmed that the results of a postmortem showed the teenager had died from “multiple traumatic injuries.”
She granted the application and adjourned the inquest for further mention to December 15th, 2026.
