A swimmer has been rescued after getting into difficulty off Salthill in County Galway.

The alarm was raised when a pedestrian saw the woman struggling in the water at around 25 past 12 this afternoon.

The Galway RNLI Lifeboat brought her to shore where an ambulance was waiting.

Paramedics assessed the woman's condition and she was allowed home a short time later.
