A man has died after he was seriously injured in a fall from a seawall in Co Galway overnight.
At around midnight, emergency services were alerted to an incident in Kinvara where a person was reported to have fallen from a height.
Emergency services were alerted, including the National Ambulance Service; the Doolin (Clare) unit of the Irish Coast Guard; crews from the Galway Fire and Rescue Service at Gort station; and Gardaí.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, is understood to have fallen accidentally several metres from the seawall onto the rocky shore below.
The tragedy occurred on the main N67 route opposite the local secondary school.
Ambulance paramedics were able to reach the casualty by walking along the shoreline about 100 metres to the scene. Despite efforts to save the man, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man’s body was later recovered from the scene by fire service and Coast Guard personnel and later removed by hearse to University Hospital Galway where a postmortem examination will be carried out.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed: “Gardaí and emergency services attended an incident in Kinvara, Co. Galway in the early hours of this morning, Sunday, 14th June 2026.
It was reported that a male fell from a height near the shoreline. The male, aged in his 30s, was pronounced deceased at the scene and his body has been removed to University Hospital Galway where a postmortem will take place.”
