A man and a teenager have died in separate road crashes on Friday night and the early hours of Saturday.

Jack Morrow, 17, from the Rathfriland area, died after a collision involving one vehicle in the County Down town in the early hours of Saturday, while a man, aged in his 60s, died following a crash in Poyntzpass on Friday night.

Police said a 19-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the incident in Rathfriland.

A police spokesperson said it was reported to officers shortly before 2.30am on Saturday that a red-coloured VW Golf was involved in a crash.

“Sadly, Jack, who was from the Rathfriland area, passed away at the scene,” they said.

“A 19-year-old man who was also in the vehicle at the time of the incident was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries which are described as serious.

“Our inquiries are ongoing, and we are appealing to anyone who was travelling in the area at the time of the collision, or who has any dashcam or mobile phone footage, to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 149 25/05/24.”

Police are also appealing for information about the crash in Poyntzpass.

Two vehicles were involved in the incident in the village, which straddles counties Down and Armagh, on Friday evening.

Police said a man, who was aged in his 60s, died at the scene on Newry Road.

A spokesperson said: “Officers received and responded to a report of a collision involving two vehicles, shortly after 6:30pm.

“Colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service also attended the scene.

“Sadly, the driver of a grey-coloured Peugeot 207 died at the scene due to his injuries.

“There are no reports of any other serious injuries at this time.”

Police have issued an appeal for anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact officers.

“Inquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances of the collision, and Collision Investigation Unit detectives are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has any mobile or dashcam footage, to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1447 of 24/05/24,” they added.
