Air accident inspectors are due to examine the scene where a microlight was forced to make an emergency landing injuring the sole occupant.

Emergency services were called to Woolengrange between Bennettsbridge and Thomastown, Co Kilkenny at about 4.30pm on Tuesday after a microlight came down in the area.

Two units from Thomastown Fire Station, Gardaí and ambulance paramedics attended the crash scene.

The pilot who is understood to be resident in Kilkenny, was taken to St Luke’s General Hospital, but his injuries have been described as not serious.

The scene has been preserved to allow for Air Accident Investigation Unit inspectors to carry out a full examination throughout Wednesday of where the microlight landed.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident between 4.15pm and 4.45pm on Tuesday is asked to contact officers at Kilkenny Garda Station on 056-7775000.
