There are a total of 549 admitted patients waiting for beds in hospitals this morning, according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

Some 396 patients are waiting in emergency departments, while 153 are in wards elsewhere in hospitals.

The hospital with the highest level of overcrowding is University Hospital Limerick, where 108 people are without a bed.

That is followed by Cork University Hospital, where 67 people are on trollies, and Sligo University Hospital with 47 without beds.
