40 years the minimum sentence - and det Donohoe's killers will serve it, vows Taoiseach
Gardaí have renewed their appeal for information about the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe last week.
The 41-year-old father of two was shot dead outside the Lordship credit union near Dundalk on Friday night.
Gardaí are asking anyone who saw a navy 08 D Volkswagen Passat acting suspiciously in the area to contact them.
Meanwhile, final preparations are being made at St Joseph's Church in Dundalk ahead of detective Donohoe's State funeral at 12.30 tomorrow. The President and the Taoiseach will be among those in attendance.
Today, hundreds of people have been paying their respects at the Donohoe family home, where his body has been lying in repose.
His wife, children and parents have laid flowers at the scene where he was murdered.
Enda Kenny condemned the killing in the Dáil.
"The penalty for those found guilty of killing a member of An Garda Síochána is a minimum mandatory sentence of 40 years upon conviction - and they will serve that," he said.
Gardaí are appealing for information about a navy 08 D Volkswagen Passat. The car, which is believed to have been used by the five-man gang involved in the botched robbery, was found burnt out in woods in south Armagh. It was stolen in Clogherhead in Louth last Tuesday night.
